Our Process

From Waste to Wonder: Our Recycling Process

At CHX Products, we’ve transformed the way promotional merchandise is made. Our Cornwall-based facility converts waste into premium branded products through a carefully engineered process that puts sustainability at its heart. Every item we create tells a story of environmental responsibility whilst delivering the quality your customers expect.

The CHX Recycling Journey

Stage 1: Traceable Waste Recovery

Our process begins with the careful sourcing of post-consumer waste plastic from white goods – the interior components of discarded refrigerators and freezers. This traceable material comes from UK-based suppliers who specialise in processing the plastic moulded interiors of these appliances at their end-of-life.

The scale of this waste stream is significant: every year an estimated 2 million tonnes of electrical waste items are discarded by householders and companies in the UK, with large household appliances making up over 40% of this waste (HSE, 2024). Approximately 3.5 million fridges alone are thrown away annually in the UK (Resource.co, 2024), creating a substantial source of high-quality plastic waste that would otherwise contribute to landfill pressure.

Our UK suppliers process these white good interiors into clean, inert plastic pellets. This post-consumer waste represents plastic that has already served its primary purpose and would typically face disposal. By intercepting it at this critical point, we’re preventing valuable material from entering the waste stream whilst creating the foundation for new, purposeful products.

Stage 2: Solar-Powered Manufacturing

These recycled plastic pellets arrive at our Cornwall facility, where renewable energy powers our entire manufacturing process. Using injection moulding technology driven by solar power, we transform the waste pellets into premium promotional products that meet the highest quality standards.

Our commitment to environmental responsibility extends to every aspect of production. We use plant-based inks for all printing, ensuring our Planet Positive Promise remains consistent throughout the manufacturing process. Each product is manufactured to order, eliminating overproduction and reducing waste at the source.

Stage 3: Complete Circular Manufacturing

Here’s where our process truly excels: we achieve zero plastic waste through complete circularity. Any production offcuts, products that don’t meet our exacting quality standards, or returned items aren’t discarded – they’re immediately fed back into our manufacturing cycle.

This circular approach ensures every gram of recycled plastic serves a purpose. Nothing goes to landfill, nothing is wasted. We’ve created a system that maximises the environmental benefit of every piece of waste plastic we rescue whilst maintaining the premium quality your customers demand.

The R+ Enhancement Process

Building on our standard recycling process, our R+ range introduces an innovative biodegradable enhancement that takes sustainability even further. This exclusive offering follows the same three-stage process with one crucial addition.

The Biodegradable Innovation

During the manufacturing stage, our R+ products receive a carefully formulated biodegradable additive that works alongside our recycled plastic blend. This additive doesn’t compromise the durability or quality of the finished product during its useful life, but enables enhanced end-of-life disposal options.

The addition creates products with a distinctive speckled appearance that offers a more natural, aesthetically pleasing look. This visual difference tells an immediate sustainability story – your customers can see and feel the environmental commitment in every product.

Enhanced Circularity

The R+ process maintains our zero-waste commitment whilst adding the biodegradable element. All waste from R+ production – offcuts, quality rejects, and returned items – is recycled back into new R+ products, maintaining the complete circular approach that defines our manufacturing philosophy.

Why Our Process Matters

Current UK statistics show that only 46% of waste is recycled, with significant amounts still reaching landfill (Waste Direct, 2025). Our process actively addresses this challenge by creating a dedicated pathway for post-consumer plastic waste that might otherwise contribute to environmental pressure.

By focusing specifically on white good interiors, we’re targeting a waste stream with proven volume and consistency. White goods are believed to make up 40% of electrical waste (HSE, 2024), representing a substantial opportunity for meaningful environmental impact through responsible material recovery.

The Manufacturing Advantage

Our unique approach offers distinct advantages for your customers:

Complete Traceability: Our controlled sourcing process ensures authentic sustainability credentials that your customers can confidently share with their customers.

Quality Assurance: Despite using waste materials, our solar-powered manufacturing process ensures every product meets premium standards. Recycled doesn’t mean compromised.

Environmental Impact: Each product represents plastic waste diverted from potential landfill, whilst being manufactured using renewable energy and plant-based inks.

Competitive Pricing: We’ve made the commitment to price both our standard recycled and R+ products identically, removing cost as a barrier to choosing enhanced sustainability.
